Twisted Therapeutics THe Benefits Of Massage

Massage therapy is far more than just a good feeling. Regardless of the massage a client selects there are both physical and mental benefits that occur. Whether you're looking for relaxation or relief from chronic pain the benefits listed below are frequently experienced when performed by a licensed massage therapist.

The Physical Benefits of Massage Therapy

Improved Circulation

It's well known that massage therapy helps to promote enhanced circulation not only in the cardiovascular system but

the lymphatic system as well. The pressure and friction applied during a massage helps to push blood through congested areas of the body allowing for normal blood and lymph flow to resume in most individuals. Its important to note the amount of pressure applied activates different systems so make sure to communicate your desired outcome of your session. If your looking to improve circulation and removal of toxins within your body a lymphatic massage is likely what your looking for. All other massage modalities have a greater influence on the cardiovascular system.

Improved Flexibility & Decrease Risk of Injury

The aging process and flexibility counter one another. As you already know the older you get the less flexible you become unless action is taken through massage therapy, at home stretching regimens, activities such as yoga, or a combination of them all. Muscle stiffness is one of the major causes to self injury. Stiff muscles in the leg and foot may cause injury if you were to roll your ankle while walking. With massage however the muscles are stretched repeatedly until they stay relaxed increasing their pliability. Taking the same scenario above instead of resulting in injury the muscles have the ability to stretch further before damage occurs. Massage therapy performed by a licensed therapist allows you to go slightly further in enhancing your flexibility as trigger points and other techniques are used that are often hard to accomplish on your own. Lastly, its never to late to start enhancing your flexibility through massage its possible to restore flexibility and movement over time.
